Four Seasons of Comfort in
The North Carolina Mountains.
Catatoga is situated at the edge of the Southern Escarpment, and is the beneficiary of a weather phenomenon known as an isothermal inversion. Temperate breezes along the escarpment keep the temperature between 10 and 15 degrees cooler than the temperature in the lowlands just minutes away. Humidity levels also remain lower, another reason why Southerners frequented these mountains to escape the searing summer heat.
Despite elevations above 3,000 feet, Catatoga is also spared most wintry extremes thanks its southern-edge location in the Western North Carolina Mountains. While winters at Catatoga are cool, the area receives just six inches of snow each year—far less than the mountains to the north.
Remember all those waterfalls, underground springs and streams? There’s a reason they’re here. Lake Toxaway and Catatoga get close to 100 inches of precipitation each year. Part of the Nantahala National Forest is actually designated as “rainforest.” Not to worry though. Sunshine is plentiful most of the year, keeping the area lush and green every summer and bright and beautiful every fall when thousands of visitors enjoy the changing leaves.
Many describe the climate as ideal, and Catatoga the ideal location to enjoy four seasons of beauty, four seasons of outdoor recreation, and four seasons of comfort.
