Cashiers, North Carolina:
“Charming,” No Matter How You Say It.

Newcomers often pronounce it “Cash-ears.” Those in the know call it by its proper name, “Cashers.” But if you’re like most people, you’ll simply love spending time in nearby Cashiers, no matter how you say it.

The lovely mountain village rests at 3,500 feet on the Eastern Continental Divide, just 14 miles from Catatoga.  New discoveries await on each and every visit. The downtown Cashiers area is an eclectic mix of specialty shops, antique shops, authentic mountain art galleries, hotels and inns at the junction of Highway 64 and North Carolina 107.

With the definite appeal of an artisan community, the downtown reaches out in all four directions. Exuding stylish, rustic elegance, Cashiers is surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest, astounding mountain views and an incomparable wealth of natural waterfalls.

From May to October, the population swells from little more than a couple of hundred to almost 20,000. Most come for many of the same reasons: the resplendent natural beauty, the soothing climate, an incomparable wealth of outdoor pursuits, a surprising abundance of cultural attractions and an unhurried way of life.  The earliest white settlers arrived in Cashiers hoping to homestead in the mid-nineteenth century. By the roaring 1920s, Southern Gentry escaped to the mountains in the hopes of finding relaxation, hunting, fishing and other leisure pursuits in a quiet, natural setting.
